A modern interactive memorial complex dedicated to the fallen defenders of Ukraine has appeared in the Pisochynska community of the Kharkiv district of the Kharkiv region. Its purpose is to give people a place of remembrance, to unite the families of the fallen, young people and residents of different generations in the common preservation of history. This space is open and accessible, it allows everyone to feel a connection with those who gave their lives for the community and the country, and at the same time becomes a focal point of community and gratitude.
The initiative group “Voice of Memory”, in close cooperation with the Agency's team, went all the way from idea to implementation. There were various stages: concept coordination with local authorities and the community, consultation with suppliers, information campaign, delivery and installation of equipment, testing of the system and presentation to community residents. Every step felt like a small victory, even in difficult wartime, because there were people nearby for whom memory and community are truly important.
An interactive memorial complex has been created that combines modern terminal technology with software, a multimedia screen, an accessibility system for people with hearing impairments with historical content, including biographies, photos and videos of deceased defenders.
The direct beneficiaries of the project were more than 500 people, including 95 families of fallen soldiers. The complex provides open access for all residents of the community, regardless of age, as well as for visitors from other regions.
This space has become a unique resource for preserving true history and forming a local identity, where everyone can feel a connection to a heroic past and join the community's shared memory.
One of the biggest challenges was that the main burden fell on a small group of active participants from material collection to technical implementation. This slowed down the process, but taught the team an important lesson: only clear organization and interaction make it possible to achieve results. It was also important to preserve the human content in each biography to reflect the memory and honor of the dead. The main achievement of the project is community cohesion and the creation of an open public space that unites people around memory, history and shared responsibility.
The complex has become a place of memory, communication and reflection for people of all ages. For the families of the dead, it symbolizes gratitude and honor, for young people - a lesson of true history, cultivating patriotism and responsibility. The open format and modern technologies make the memorial accessible to the modern generation, and its presence unites the community, forms a sense of unity and dignity. Each visitor can feel the power of shared memory, and the community takes pride in their own history and the contributions of their heroes.
The project left a stable infrastructure facility in the community, which is now owned by communal property and serves as an open space for memory and community.
It has also created a digital archive of the stories of fallen defenders that can be replenished in the future, ensuring the true story is preserved for generations to come.
This memorial complex exemplified how a local initiative can have a nationwide and even international resonance, inspiring other communities to create similar spaces.
