Sewing workshop in Volokhovy Yar

International Charitable Foundation “Alliance of Public Health”

Scope of implementation:
Balakleyska territorial community, Izyumskiy district, Kharkiv region

Among the 14 initiatives that received support, one of the most warm and deep stories is created by residents of Volokhiv Yar village.

What is this project about?

The “Sewing Workshop” is an initiative that creates a local atelier that was not previously in the community, and combines creativity, work, psychological support and social integration of internally displaced persons, women, large families, retired women, adolescents and all those in need of the community.

Why is it important?

In the conditions of war, many inhabitants lost their usual supports. Some moved to Volokhovy Yar in search of greater safety, others experienced destruction and forced changes. The war took away from many people not only their homes, but also their jobs.

This is especially acute in small communities where the choice of profession or place of work is limited.

Creating a sewing workshop is a direct solution to the problem of employment: here you can not only learn, but also work, fulfill orders, repair clothes, create new products.

What will be created

As part of the project, there will be a sewing workshop with modern equipment:sewing machines and an overlock.

Here will be held:

  • cutting and sewing lessons
  • workshops on needlework and clothing repair
  • warm meetings, exchange of experience and mutual support

What changes will the project bring

  • Creating a sense of support and togetherness
  • mastering professional skills
  • the ability to create things
  • the emergence of a sustainable development space that will continue to work after the completion of the project

Who creates change

The initiative group of the women's club “Sewing Workshop” is a team of active residents who are well aware of the needs of the community and are ready to act. Among them: migrant women, mothers of large children, experienced craftswomen, pensioners.

They are united by a common desire to support each other, share knowledge and build bridges between people.

Here everyone can be heard, important, useful regardless of age, status or life circumstances.

The Ministries are implemented within the project “Strengthening the Resilience of Communities through the Support of Communities Initiatives” approach with the financial support of the international humanitarian organization HEKS/EPER (Switzerland) in coordination with Alliance for Public Health Alliance for Public Health.
