SportWave in Lyubotyn

International Charitable Foundation “Alliance of Public Health”

Scope of implementation:
Lyubotyn territorial community, Kharkiv district, Kharkiv region

Another of the 14 initiatives that received support is the arrangement of educational space in shelters of the support schools of Lyubotyn.

What is this project about?

“SportWave” is an initiative aimed at providing children and adolescents with modern sports equipment for daily sports in schools, circles and safe premises of the community. The project creates an opportunity for more than 200 children to exercise, develop coordination, play team games and relieve stress in a healthy way.

Why is it important?

The Lyubotin community today is a community living in constant stress: more than 24 thousand residents and more than 15 thousand displaced people face uncertainty and danger every day. Children are especially vulnerable. They are often deprived of not just space for sports, but even basic equipment: balls, coordination elements, equipment.

This does not allow them to:

  • maintain physical health
  • develop strength and endurance
  • relieve stress through movement
  • build team skills

Lack of sports equipment is not a one-time problem. It wears out, is lost, and there is no resource to update the hair. For the community, sport has become a “starting material” that is needed every day.

What will be created

As part of the project, inventory will be purchased, which will allow organizing daily workouts and games:

  • volleyball and basketball balls
  • Training Kits

What changes will the project bring

  • more than 200 children get access to daily classes
  • development of coordination, strength, endurance
  • Formation of friendly ties
  • the appearance of regular activities

Who creates change

The initiative group consists of local parents, teachers and neighbors who see the needs of children and strive for transformative change. Yes, it is not about “great sport”, but it is about every day. The team has been organizing activities for several years, even in difficult conditions: sirens, moving, confined spaces.

They know that sometimes one ball can change a child's day, and regular workouts can change lives.

These are people who are ready:

  • organize the process
  • ensure safety
  • maintain classes every day
  • take care of the inventory
  • make sport accessible to all

The Ministries are implemented within the project “Strengthening the Resilience of Communities through the Support of Communities Initiatives” approach with the financial support of the international humanitarian organization HEKS/EPER (Switzerland) in coordination with Alliance for Public Health
