Light on the streets: safe Mala Rogan

International Charitable Foundation “Alliance of Public Health”

Scope of implementation:
s. M. Rogan, Vilkhivska TG, Kharkiv district, Kharkiv region

What is this project about?

The project “Light in the Streets: Safe Mala Rogan” is an initiative aimed at solving a critical problem: the complete absence of lighting on the street. Yabluneva. After the occupation of the Vilkhiv community, the village suffered significant destruction: houses, schools, social infrastructure facilities were damaged, and the streets remained dark and dangerous.

Because of this:

  • people are afraid to move in the evening;
  • parents do not let children go for walks;
  • The elderly and people with disabilities remain isolated in their homes.

Why is it important?

Local authorities do not have the resources to quickly restore traditional lighting:

  • the community budget is limited;
  • the procurement and installation procedure takes time;
  • The problem requires urgent response, because it is about the safety of people.

Installing autonomous lights allows you to quickly return the light to where it is needed most, without complicated technical work and additional burden on the budget.

What will be created?

As part of this initiative, 8 autonomous LED lamps with solar panels* will be installed in the darkest and most dangerous areas of the street. Yabluneva. The community will carry out the installation of lamps on their own.

Expected results

What changes will the projects bring?

  • safe movement in the evening and at night;
  • opportunity for children and adults to use the street after sunset;
  • reducing social isolation for older people and people with disabilities;
  • a sense of care and support from the villagers;
  • creation of a cozy, comfortable, “living” public space;
  • An important symbol of recovery after the occupation.

Who creates change?

The project implements Local Initiatives Agencyon the initiative of the residents of the community in cooperation with Vilkhiv village council.

This project continues the history of successful community initiatives. Previously, the project “Illuminated Street — Safe Environment” was implemented with the support of the IfF “Alliance for Public Health”, which became an example of how cohesion can create real change https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1Q23JLzpWx/. And now work continues within the framework of grant support, further equipping the dangerous intersection to make traffic for residents and children as safe as possible https://www.facebook.com/share/p/17q1KqusQ8/ ‍ and https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1BmyabAm4G/.

The mini-grant is implemented within the framework of the project “Strengthening the Resilience of Communities through the Support of Communities Initiatives” approach with the financial support of the international humanitarian organization HEKS/EPER (Switzerland) in coordination with Alliance for Public Health Alliance for Public Health.
