Play and unloading area: interactive floor for children in the shelter

Among the 14 initiatives that received support, we continue to talk about projects that strengthen the safety, development and psychological well-being of children in communities.

What is this project about?

The initiative aims to equip in the newly created shelter an interactive floor - a modern tool for the development and psychological support of children who live in frontline conditions and have survived the occupation. Due to the constant risks of shelling, all educational and leisure activities of children in Mala Rogan take place exclusively in shelter, which creates an increased psycho-emotional burden. An interactive floor will help provide children with the opportunity to play, learn and unload emotionally in a safe space.

Why is it important?

The children of the community survived the occupation, years of living near the area of active fighting, and long periods in shelters. This led to increased anxiety, decreased concentration, social difficulties, and general exhaustion.

At the same time, the war continues, and the community is forced not to wait for its end, but to create conditions for the life and development of children now. It is for this that a new shelter is being built to give children a space in which they can feel safe.

The interactive floor is an affordable and effective recovery tool:

• contributes to the development of attention, memory and logic
• helps reduce anxiety
• stimulates motor activity and social interaction
• brings back the game and joy in everyday life

What will be created?

Within the framework of the project it is planned to:

• purchase and installation of an interactive floor
• arrangement of a safe play and development area in the shelter
• informing the community about the possibilities of space

What changes will the project bring?

• emotional unloading and support for children's mental health
• creating a safe development environment while in shelter
• improvement of cognitive development (attention, memory, logical thinking)
• development of social skills and resilience
• formation of a model of arrangement of children's shelters, combining safety and development

Who creates change

The project implements Local Initiatives Agencyon the initiative of a group of parents of education applicants. The team consists of educators, active parents and residents who have a deep understanding of the needs of children and are committed to supporting their development and well-being in challenging environments.

The Ministries are implemented within the project “Strengthening the Resilience of Communities through the Support of Communities Initiatives” approach with the financial support of the international humanitarian organization HEKS/EPER (Switzerland) in coordination with Alliance for Public Health
